Civics in Action!

What does your town government actually do? How are local laws made? What happens inside Town Hall, the police station, and the fire station?

This summer, Shoreline Scholars is partnering with Councilman John Brady to bring civics to life for students and families in Indialantic.

What Students Will Learn

  • How local government works
  • The history of our town
  • What ordinances are and how they’re created

Facility Tours

Students and families will get hands-on tours of three civic landmarks:

  • Town Hall — See where local decisions are made
  • Police Station — Meet officers and learn about community safety
  • Fire Station — Explore the trucks and equipment up close

Meet Your Instructor

Councilman John Brady
Councilman John N. Brady — John is a retired US Coast Guard Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate and former law enforcement officer with service spanning five USCG Cutters, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office Major Case/Homicide unit, and Port Canaveral Seaport Security. He holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from University of Maryland University College and is a recipient of the VCSO Medal of Valor and Purple Heart. Since settling in Indialantic in 2020, John has served on the Town's Code Enforcement Board and, since 2024, on the Indialantic Town Council. He and his wife Simi are proud to call Indialantic their forever home.
