Welcome to Shoreline Scholars

Welcome to Shoreline Scholars

We’ve been dreaming about this for a long time.

Both of us came to this moment from different paths — Rachel through years of counseling and a research focus on developmental psychology, with a deep belief that emotional safety is the foundation of all learning. Chi through two decades of teaching math, science, and yoga to children in individualized settings, and the conviction that every child has a natural desire to learn when you stop getting in the way.

When we met, we realized we were saying the same thing in different words. And we decided to build something together.

Why Shoreline Scholars

We looked at the options available to homeschool families in our community and saw a gap. There are co-ops, tutoring centers, and online programs. But there was nothing that combined serious academic enrichment with relationship-centered care, outdoor learning, and the kind of small-group, relational environment where children are truly seen.

We wanted a place where a child could study science by exploring a tide pool, learn math through real-world projects, develop social skills through collaborative discovery, and grow emotionally in the care of adults who understand attachment, regulation, and the developmental needs of the whole child.

We wanted all of that on the beach — because this is Indialantic, and the ocean has been teaching children since long before classrooms existed.

So we built it.

What We Believe

We believe childhood is not a race. It’s a season — sacred, formative, and unrepeatable.

We believe children learn best when they feel safe, connected, and free to be curious. When they can move their bodies, use their hands, ask questions without fear, and see that the adults around them are genuinely interested in who they are — not just what they produce.

We believe nature is one of the most powerful teachers available to us, and that a morning on the shoreline can accomplish what a week of worksheets cannot.

We believe that academics matter deeply — and that they matter most when they’re connected to the real world, delivered with intention, and embedded in relationships that make a child feel valued.

And we believe that homeschool families shouldn’t have to figure it all out alone. Community changes everything.

What’s Next

We’re starting with our beach program — small groups, hands-on learning, right by the ocean. It’s already running, and watching children discover the shoreline together has confirmed everything we hoped this could be.

From here, we’re building toward a dedicated learning home in Indialantic — a beachside house where up to 60 children across three age-based programs can learn, create, explore, and grow together Monday through Friday. A place that feels like a home, not an institution. A place where the curriculum is the world outside the door.

We’ll be sharing more as we grow — about our programs, our philosophy, the research behind what we do, and the stories of the children and families who are part of this community.

For now, we just want to say: welcome. We’re glad you’re here.

This is Shoreline Scholars. And we’re just getting started.
